High in the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan stands Gangkhar Puensum, the highest unclimbed mountain peak on Earth. Local spiritual beliefs treat high peaks as sacred homes of protective spirits. That strict legal protection keeps the lofty peak entirely untouched by human climbers.
