According to materials scientists at MIT, we must coat the inside of pipelines with advanced protective composites. This is very expensive. However, a major discovery in natural underground deposits might bypass this transportation cost.
Hidden Underground Reservoirs

Geologists have recently discovered massive pockets of pure hydrogen gas trapped deep inside the earth. These natural reservoirs could provide a virtually limitless supply of clean energy without any manufacturing. According to the US Geological Survey, these underground deposits can easily meet global demand for hundreds of years. The race is on. But extracting this gas safely requires a technology we have not fully built yet.
